EMF Curvature,
Not Spacetime Bending
This article is the seventh analysis in Category B of the Lilborn Universe Comparative Series.
B7 corrects one of the most famous misconceptions in modern physics: the belief that Mercury’s anomalous perihelion precession is proof of spacetime curvature. Under the Lilborn Framework, this precession arises from the shallow curvature and tension structure of the EMF Field Ψ_EMF surrounding the Sun, not from Newtonian force or Einsteinian geometry.

The Perihelion of Mercury
EMF Curvature, Not Spacetime Bending
For more than a century, Mercury’s perihelion shift has been cited as the definitive proof that Einstein’s General Relativity replaced Newtonian gravity. Newton’s inverse-square law predicts slightly less precession than observed, leaving an unexplained excess of 43 arcseconds per century.
Einstein’s spacetime curvature formula reproduces this number, and for generations it has been celebrated as evidence that gravity is the curvature of a four‑dimensional manifold.
But both Newton and Einstein misunderstood the underlying structure.
Newton’s model fails because it assumes a perfect 1/r² force acting in a perfectly flat, force-mediated universe. The Solar region is not perfectly flat. The EMF surrounding the Sun is not spherical or uniform. Curvature K(x) is small but non-zero. The inverse-square law is merely the local tangent approximation of a shallow coherence basin.
Einstein correctly rejected Newton’s force picture, but replaced it with an equally incorrect interpretation: the bending of spacetime. Spacetime does not exist and no mass bends a geometric fabric. The metric tensor reproduces the numerical value of the precession because it approximates the shallow curvature of the EMF, yet misidentifies the cause.
The Lilborn Framework reveals the true structural origin. The Sun generates a slight curvature in the EMF Ψ_EMF. Mercury orbits within this curvature, sampling slightly different tension values across its elliptical path. Because the field is not perfectly symmetric, the orbit does not close, producing the observed precession. No force acts between the Sun and Mercury. No spacetime curves. Only the EMF Field has curvature.
The Lilborn Field Equation:
∇_S² Ψ_EMF + K(x)Ψ_EMF = K₀ρ,
accurately represents the structural cause. The curvature term K(x) captures the asymmetry and the tension gradient determines Mercury’s motion. Einstein’s prediction matches the number because his metric approximated the field’s shape, not because spacetime is real.
Mercury’s precession was the first sign that gravity-as-force and gravity-as-curvature were both incorrect ontologies.
The Solar System itself reveals the truth: orbital dynamics arise from the geometry of the EMF, not from Newtonian attraction or Einsteinian spacetime.
B7 establishes the sixth collapse of Category B: the perihelion of Mercury is explained naturally by EMF curvature, without gravity, without spacetime and without contradiction.
