The Steady State Creation Rate, the Solar Wind Mass Flux, and the Difference Between Proposal and Measurement
Introduction
The steady state model required continuous creation of matter throughout the universe at a rate too small to detect directly. The mathematics was precise. The creation was never observed. The solar wind carries approximately one million tons of material outward from the Sun every second. That figure is not a model requirement. It is a measurement, derived from direct instrument readings of solar wind density and velocity at Earth’s orbital distance, confirmed across decades of continuous observation. One rate was proposed where nothing could be measured. The other is measured where everything can be observed.

This document returns to the steady state comparison with a specific quantitative focus: the creation rate the steady state model required versus the mass flux the solar wind delivers. The contrast is not philosophical. It is numerical. One number comes from a model requirement too small to detect. The other comes from direct measurement of what the Sun continuously releases.
The Creation Rate That
Could Not Be Measured
The steady state model required continuous creation of new matter throughout the universe to maintain constant average density as space expands, an assumption the Lilborn Equation Framework does not share. The rate Hoyle, Bondi and Gold calculated was approximately one hydrogen atom per cubic meter per billion years. This number was not arbitrary. It was derived from the expansion rate of the universe as then understood, combined with the requirement that average density remain constant. The mathematics was precise and the derivation was coherent within the model’s assumptions. The creation rate was also, by design, undetectable. One hydrogen atom per cubic meter per billion years is far below the sensitivity of any instrument that has ever been built or that could reasonably be built.
The steady state creation rate was derived from the mathematics of cosmological expansion. It was precise, internally consistent, and permanently beyond direct detection. Science eventually abandoned the model not because creation was disproved but because the cosmic microwave background showed what the universe actually looks like and the steady state model could not account for it. The rate was never measured. The model was ended by a different measurement entirely.
The Solar Wind Mass Flux
One Million Tons Per Second
The solar wind mass flux is the rate at which the Sun continuously releases material into the heliosphere. It is calculated from direct measurements of solar wind particle density and velocity taken by instruments at Earth’s orbital distance and beyond.
The calculation is straightforward: particle density multiplied by particle velocity multiplied by the surface area of the sphere at the measurement distance gives the total mass flux crossing that distance per unit time. The numbers from ACE, Ulysses, Wind and other missions converge on approximately one million tons per second as the solar wind mass flux under typical solar wind conditions. That number is not a model requirement. It is derived from direct instrument readings.

Within this framework, that mass flux is not incidental. It is the outbound delivery rate of the coherence gradient’s continuous production process. Every second, approximately one million tons of solar wind material carries the compositional record of the coherence depths at which each element reached structural closure, from the atmospheric elements that close at the photosphere through the structural metals that close at the Order of Structural Stillness. The mass flux is the measured rate of delivery of that record outward through the heliosphere.
The Contrast
